Autobiography
My name is Sherley Marie Cordero López. I was born on January 18, 1989 in Humacao. I am the oldest daughter of Daniel Cordero and Carmen Iris López. I have a younger sister, Shalimar Cordero and a brother, Daniel J. Cordero. My education started early in my home. My mother was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and she was aware of the importance of having two languages. I remember when she was teaching me how to communicate in English with simple sentences like my name is, counting in English and simple stuff like that. I was enrolled in a bilingual private school named Academia Enseñanza Moderna in Las Piedras in where my first grade teacher, Mrs. White developed a solid foundation of the language. I was in a private system for the first grade only then my parents decided to change my to a public school due to economic problems. Therefore, I was enrolled in the Francisco Torres Elementary School in Las Piedras. I graduated with honors and passed to the Leoncio Melendez Middle School of the same town. In middle school, I was involved in science fairs, won several trophies and participated of an educational trip to the NASA in Florida. I was determined to prepare myself for a science career so I chose to study in the Florencia García High School, also at the same town, in where it has a general program. I stood out in all the courses specifically those related with science and math. I was in the honor roll and mastered the College Board standardized test in order to be admitted to the UPR system. I am currently studying in the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao to be an English Elementary Teacher of the Puerto Rico Department of Education. I recently passed the exam to become a certified teacher in Puerto Rico. My goals for a near future are teaching in the public education system in Puerto Rico as well in United States. I would also like to obtain a master’s degree in education.
